Light and Matter is Brooke's first collection of poetry and photography; his work has been published internationally in Ireland, Germany, New Zealand and England, as well as in numerous U.S. journals and reviews.
His earlier book, Strings: Two Yakima Indian Women in the 1800s, contained his 1999 Iowa Prize for Poetry poem, "Cree Women Cleaning Fish." He is an Associate Professor of English and Chair of the Humanities Division at Grand View College in Des Moines, Iowa.
